http://www.losangeleshikingguide.hikesyoucando.com presents: Rare footage of the interior of the Bighorn Gold Mine in the San Gabriel Mountains on Mount Baden-Powell. This mine is complete with cave-ins, explosives chambers, mine shafts and lots of damp walls. This gold mine is at the end of the Mine Gulch Trail in the Angeles National Forest. The trail starts just around the corner from Mountain High Ski Resort and not too far from Wrightwood. Although the mine is now closed off to the public the Mine Gulch Trail is open and really fun.

In this episode of "California Travel Tips," Veronica Hill (http://www.CaliforniaTravelExpert.com) goes on one of LA's best hikes — the trek to Big Horn Mine and Miner Vincent's Cabin in the San Gabriel Mountains. The trailhead to the cabin and mine is located at Vincent Gap on Highway 2 (Angeles Crest Highway), which connects metropolitan Los Angeles with the mountain village of Wrightwood. Be sure to buy a $5 adventure pass at the Grassy Hollow Visitor Center before heading out, or you're likely be fined. You can also buy passes at Jensen's in Wrightwood, or Big 5 Sporting Goods stores. Plan on a half day for the moderate 4-mile round trip hike to Big Horn Mine, which follows an old wagon trail around the north slope of Mount Baden-Powell. The hike to Vincent's Cabin is roughly 2 miles...
Gold is everywhere in Suriname, from political power to what the locals wear on their fingers, the effects of gold mining seep into all aspects of society. The industry is a necessary source of income for many Surinamese, but it's also destroying the environment, bad for public health, and rife with corruption. VICE Netherlands went to Suriname to see how gold is intertwined with everyday life in the country. They ride along with 'Jungle' Ronnie Brunswick - an ex-rebel leader who waged a violent civil war but is now a successful businessman, owning thousands of hectares of gold mining land. VICE Netherlands also witnessed the dangers of mercury, which is used widely in the recovery of gold, and visited Benz Village, where everything in life is paid for with gold. Prospecting and sampling a site for color in Angeles National Forest, 2/28/10. The idea is to hand pan for the presence of gold before you do any serious digging. 1. Find the gold line (inside curve of stream). 2. Locate a gravel deposit. 3. Dig a sample and classify (screen) to 1/4 inch. 4. Pan it and look for color. I'm at "Pry Bar Gulch" - a small canyon that is dry most of the year. I took advantage of a rainstorm the day before to pan while the small creek was running.

Most of the tracks I choose to post are being uploaded online for the first time, or have never even been documented on the internet before. All tracks are direct vinyl rips from physical releases that I personally obtained. I will always provide Discogs links to provide full information, and I strongly encourage trying to purchase the record if you like what you hear, even if it may be difficult to find. Found abandoned creepy mine tunnel in the middle of nowhere. When my daughter thought she saw wet blood on one of the walls in one of the tunnels, she panicked and started to run out. That's the wrong thing to do in a situation like this! This abandoned gold mine has been abandoned for many years. Today it sits waiting for the miners to return their search for gold and silver. This old mine is located in the state of Nevada. Join us on this latest urbex adventure. You can read more about the DOD supplies and what they stocked in these old mines here: http://www.civildefensemuseum.com/shelsupp.html
Blasting caps and muckers. Those were some of the mining artifacts we documented during this third and final exploration of a massive, abandoned mine up in the mountains. Here in Part 3, we once again descend the 600-foot inclined shaft to the 400-Level and 500-Level of this historic silver mine. Other artifacts we found during this exploration include slushers, a pick axe, fuse cord, and yellow slickers worn by the miners. This home movie gives a glimpse of the National Air Races in Los Angeles in 1928 (September 8-16). This exhibition was held at Mines Field, which is now present day LAX. Footage includes the grandstands, fly-overs including an autogyro performing stunts, and more. (Make sure to watch the end of the film for a funny surprise!) The National Air Races (also known as Pulitzer Trophy Races) were a series of pylon and cross-country races that took place in the United States from 1920 to 1949. The science of aviation, and the speed and reliability of aircraft and engines grew rapidly during this period; the National Air Races were both a proving ground and showcase for this. In 1928, the Los Angeles City Council selected 640 acres (1.00 sq mi; 260 ha) in the southern part of Westchester for a...

I first saw people panning for gold when I went bungee jumping at the Bridge To Nowhere in the San Gabriel Mountains just east of Azusa, CA. The trip was awesome but the one thing that stuck with me was the people panning for gold… and the how insane bungee jumping is. About a year later I wanted to go see if I could find gold my self. I found out there is certainly gold, and a lot of it too!!! This has turned into my new favorite hobby and I go out panning/sluicing for gold every week. I love it so much I started a new youtube channel all about finding gold and other Gems. Here is the link to the new channel called “ModernDayMiners” : https://www.youtube....
